6G-VERSUS at the IEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics 2025

The IEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics 2025 (SSRR’25) took place on 29–31 October in Galway, Ireland, as a hybrid event bringing together experts in robotics, safety, and innovation.

In this context, Harris Georgiou from the Hellenic Rescue Team of Attica (HRTA) participated in the Forum: “𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 & 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.”

This session explored how European safety and security strategies are being translated into tangible innovation and operational impact within Europe and beyond.

Harris presented “𝑇𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑛𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑔𝑎𝑝𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑑𝑣𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑆𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑐𝑢𝑒 𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠: 𝐹𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑅&𝐷 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙-𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠,” which among others featured the ongoing work and progress within the 6G-VERSUS project.

He described the mission-specific differences between the various types of disaster events (earthquakes, floods, wildfires) in terms of Search& Rescue operations, why reliable field communications are perhaps the most crucial aspect for the First Responder teams and how 6G-VERSUS brings together the next generation of such technologies in real-world application.

At the end of the forum, Harris also took part in the panel discussion that concluded the session, contributing to a fruitful exchange of perspectives on the future of safety and security innovation.
