Programme Overview

The 6G-VERSUS Training Programme is a modular learning initiative designed to support onboarding and upskilling in advanced 5G/6G concepts, sustainability-oriented experimentation, and innovation pathways. The programme is delivered through Moodle and is designed for both complete pathway participation and selective, role-relevant upskilling.

6G-VERSUS is building a sustainable and inclusive innovation ecosystem around 5G and beyond, combining technical research, experimentation environments, trial planning, and impact-oriented validation. The Training Programme is the project’s capacity-building entry point for learners and stakeholders who want to understand not only the technology itself, but also how it is applied, evaluated, and translated into innovation.

The first mini-course, 5G Fundamentals, is now available on the Moodle platform. The remaining mini-courses will be released progressively during the project as the 6G-VERSUS technical baselines, trial evidence, and innovation activities mature.

Who is it for?

The Training Programme is designed for a heterogeneous audience across the 5G/6G ecosystem, supporting both structured learning journeys and targeted upskilling.

  • Students and early-stage researchers: A structured entry point into 5G fundamentals, sustainable evolution towards 6G, and experimentation-related thinking.
  • Industry engineers: A practical way to understand architecture concepts, enabling technologies, and trial-oriented validation logic.
  • Vertical stakeholders: Support to interpret use cases, project clusters, KPI/KVI logic, and deployment-relevant evidence.
  • Educators and trainers: A reusable Moodle-based structure and learning methodology that can support replication and train-the-trainers activities.
  • Start-ups and innovation actors: An entry point into the innovation and entrepreneurship dimension of 5G, 6G, and emerging connectivity.

Programme structure

The programme is defined as one training pathway with four thematic modules and implemented in Moodle as four standalone mini-courses. This structure supports flexibility: learners can follow the complete pathway or focus only on the mini-courses most relevant to their role and prior knowledge.

Mini Courses Table
Mini-course Focus Workload Status
M1 · 5G Fundamentals RAN, core network, MEC, slicing, transport and orchestration foundations 20 h Available now / early access
M2 · Evolution towards 6G B5G/6G enablers, AI/MLOps, sustainability and network intelligence 12 h Coming progressively
M3 · 6G Use Cases and Trials 6G-VERSUS pilots, application triplet logic, trial design and KPI/KVI evaluation 14 h Coming progressively
M4 · Innovation and Entrepreneurship Business Model Canvas, value proposition, regulation, circular models and exploitation framing 14 h Planned next / upcoming

Module 1 (5G Fundamentals) introduces the fundamental concepts of 5G and its main technical building blocks, including radio access, core network, MEC, slicing, transport, and orchestration aspects. It is the common foundation for learners who will later engage with 6G enablers, pilots, KPI/KVI reasoning, and innovation pathways.

Module 2 (Technological Evolution towards 6G) explores the technological enablers and sustainability concepts shaping the evolution from 5G towards 6G. Module 3 (6G Use Cases and Trials) focuses on project clusters, trial logic, and KPI/KVI definition and evaluation methodology. Module 4 (Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 5G and beyond) connects technological understanding with business modelling, exploitation, and entrepreneurship-oriented thinking.

Participation modes

  • Full pathway: Recommended for students and early-stage learners who want the complete programme experience across all four mini-courses, corresponding to the full 2 ECTS / 60-hour workload.
  • Selective pathway: Recommended for professionals and domain specialists who want to enrol in one or more mini-courses according to role, background, and immediate relevance.

Learning approach

The 6G-VERSUS Training Programme follows a Moodle-based modular delivery model with a consistent internal structure across all mini-courses. Each lesson can include a recorded lecture, slides, reading material, and optional formative quizzes, supported where relevant by practical worksheets and applied exercises.

The methodology combines conceptual explanation with problem-based learning. Each unit includes a guided PBL activity and a short exercise focused on a realistic scenario, helping learners apply concepts such as architecture reasoning, KPI/KVI selection, trial planning, sustainability trade-offs, or innovation framing.

PBL activities are used as formative applied-learning exercises. Formal completion evidence is consolidated through Moodle-based final evaluations for each mini-course, keeping the pathway scalable and suitable for self-paced participation.
