On the 19th of March, the 6G-VERSUS project was presented at IHSM La Mayora (UMA-CSIC) as part of the first series of trials within the Spanish cluster, during a conference organized by ASAJA Málaga on the sustainable management of subtropical fruit trees in a context of water scarcity.
As part of Block I of the conference: ‘Digitalization and Cooperation’, 6G-VERSUS, through its synergy with the 6G-PATH project (Universidad de Málaga-CSIC-Nokia), presented how 6G technology can support precision agriculture and intelligent water management, offering innovative solutions to the ongoing drought challenges in Southern Spain. This event brought together farmers, researchers, and policy makers, offering a valuable opportunity to showcase how cutting-edge technologies can address real challenges faced by the agri-food sector. In a context of severe water scarcity, representatives from Nokia, CSIC, and the University of Málaga demonstrated some examples of how the evolution of mobile communication technologies is becoming a critical ally for rural resilience:
🔹Immersive Telepresence: We showcased progress on the Spanish pilot for remote control of agricultural operations using vehicles operated through ultra-low latency communications.
🔹Sustainable Water Management: We reaffirmed our commitment to transforming real-world use cases into efficient vertical applications. 6G-VERSUS will cover the entire lifecycle of reclaimed water: from monitoring processes at the Roquetas WWTP to decision support systems based on continuous advanced water quality sensor data.
These developments illustrate how 6G technologies can drive precision agriculture and enhance resilience in rural areas, particularly in regions affected by severe drought.
