ABOUT

6G-VERSUS is a funded HE funded research project (HORIZON-JU-SNS-2024-STREAM-D-01-01). The project will explore the frontiers of 6G technology through a series of trials and 6 pilots across Europe, each meticulously designed to address and efficiently assess the pressing challenges of the next-generation sustainable and environmentally conscious vertical industries.

6G-VERSUS will introduce a novel methodology, transforming existing use cases into 6G applications, comprising Vertical App (V-App), Network App (N-App), and AI-assisted App (AI-App). With the support of six 6G platforms spanning across Europe,

6G-VERSUS aims to demonstrate the profound sustainable, economic and societal impact of 6G technology, propelling towards a more sustainable and prosperous society. 

From the AI-driven monitoring and control of distributed renewable energy sources in Bulgaria to the data-centric management of water and waste in French critical infrastructure, each of the 6 pilots is a testament to the potential of 6G to revolutionize the expected environmental challenges. Towards achieving this, 6G-VERSUS realizes a three-step methodology by:

  1. i) Transforming the currently existing use cases and services into 6G applications
  2. ii) Testing and validating the 6G applications of each use-case/pilot at the six 6G SNS and non-SNS Experimentation Platforms that are supporting the project, properly enhanced with energy efficiency tools and components,

iii) Assessing both qualitatively and quantitatively the sustainable impact of each 6G Application per use-case/pilot on the environment, the society, the economy, the industry and the European market.

With the support of six 6G platforms/testbeds across Europe (including both SNS Stream C and non-SNS 6G experimentation infrastructures), located in Greece, Spain, France, Portugal, Bulgaria and Finland, 6G-VERSUS is poised to demonstrate the transformative sustainable impact of 6G for a greener future.

AIM & OBJECTIVES

The 6G-VERSUS project aims to test advanced 5G/6G technologies and enable effect and impact in the vertical sectors, by establishing a set of SMART objectives. It aims to achieve its targets while adhering to these principles, ensuring clear objectives implementation and well-defined outcomes, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). To achieve the aforementioned goals, a total of 5 specific objectives have been defined.

Objective 1: Design and Development of a 6G-Enabled Application Framework for the triplet of V-app, AI-app and N-app.

Objective 2: Conduct 6G Trials to Assess AI, Network and Application Performance, concentrating on the principles of ‘sustainable 6G’.

Objective 3: Integrate Advanced 6G Applications across 6 6G-SNS and non-SNS testbeds

Objective 4: Evaluate the societal and environmental impact of 6G trials to ensure alignment with sustainability goals and societal needs and create new business models

Objective 5: Maximize the impact and adoption of 6G-VERSUS results through extensive dissemination, communication, capacity building, standardization efforts, and exploitation measures.
