On the 6th of May the French pilot trials conducted on the EURECOM Open5GLab testbed and in operational green spaces in Marseille (Bortoli and Oasis parks), involving the integration of connected sensors, AI-based applications, cloud platforms, and 5G network enablers for smart irrigation and sustainable water management.
Activities: Validation of end-to-end data transmission over the 5G infrastructure, real-time environmental monitoring, abnormal watering and leak detection applications, and AI-driven irrigation optimization tools.
Outcome: Successfully demonstrated the end-to-end operation of a 5G-enabled smart watering ecosystem. Initial results from Oasis Park showed significant sustainability benefits, including water savings of up to 35.5% (approximately 499 m³), energy savings of 349 kWh, and an estimated reduction of 150 kg of CO₂ emissions. The trials also confirmed the feasibility of combining AI and advanced 5G technologies to support future large-scale smart water management deployments.
